Our lives are full of changing seasons. This retreat explores the wisdom of natural seasons, the liturgical calendar, and the Spiritual Exercises to draw us into a deeper relationship with our God who constantly and unconditionally loves us and invites us to grow and change.
In addition to what you can expect on a traditional weekend Bellarmine retreat, participants on this retreat can look forward to:
The gift of two retreat facilitators who bring different styles, spiritualities, and life experiences
An approach that holds time and space for depth, rest, play, and connection
Thoughtful supporting materials and an curated playlist of music
The chance to pray with the concept of seasons during the beautiful season of autumn
Our retreat leaders for this retreat, Fr. Eric and Lauren, met 15 years ago working at Cristo Rey Jesuit High School. Eric was a Jesuit in formation and Lauren was a Jesuit volunteer. In many ways, Lauren has Eric to thank for much of her trajectory since he was the one who encouraged her to go on her first silent retreat and meet with a spiritual director. Since then, Fr. Eric was ordained, Lauren got married (Fr. Eric was the celebrant!), and they’ve each had their share of transitions in ministry and life. Between them, Lauren and Fr. Eric have four decades of experience accompanying people young, old, and young-at-heart through all kinds of stages, phases, and seasons of life and faith.
Lauren Hackman-Brooks is a parent and spouse, a lay minister and educator, a spiritual director and retreat facilitator. Lauren first came to Bellarmine as a campus minister on high school Kairos retreats and now serves as the Chair of Bellarmine’s Board of Directors. Lauren holds a Master of Divinity from Catholic Theological Union and a BA from the University of Dayton (Go Flyers!). She works at Gonzaga University in Spokane, WA empowering faculty and staff to learn about and embody the university’s Catholic, Jesuit mission. Lauren can usually be found with a novel, in the kitchen, or on a mountain. You can learn more about Lauren's story on our website here:
Fr. Eric Sundrup, SJ is the University Chaplain at Xavier University in Cincinnati, OH and a member of the Executive Cabinet. Splitting his time between administration and direct student work, Fr. Eric lives in a residence hall on campus and works with student leaders to foster community and connection across the campus. He helped start and produce a number of podcasts at America Magazine, including Jesuitical and is a co-founder of The Jesuit Post. A native of Cincinnati, Fr. Eric is an avid soccer fan and can often be found at TQL stadium rooting for FC Cincinnati. Pinball, retro arcades and terrariums eat up his remaining free time.
Fr. Eric has also made a number of 1-minute homily videos. You can listen to one of his on YouTube here.
